The short version

Nara is the bowl that lives in the middle of the table. At 24 cm across and 7 cm deep, it is proportioned for the two jobs a serving bowl actually gets asked to do: tossing a salad without launching it across the kitchen, and holding a full portion of pasta, grain or fruit without looking half-empty.

The contrast is the design. The outside stays matte and quiet — oatmeal, slightly chalky, warm. The inside is flooded with a deep indigo gloss that pools darker at the base where the glaze gathers during firing. Food sits against that dark surface, so greens, citrus and anything red read more vividly than they would in a white bowl. The rim is wiped clean before firing, leaving a 3 mm raw clay line that frames the whole piece.

The weight is deliberate: at 1.25 kg the bowl does not slide when you toss, and the foot is wide enough that it sits stable on wood, stone or a tablecloth. It stacks two-deep in a cupboard and, unlike thinner earthenware, it does not ping or craze when something hot goes into it.

Use it for salad, pasta, bread, fruit, or nothing at all on a Sunday. It is the one piece in the zenvuq ceramics range that customers most often photograph before they use it.
