A 22 cm sculptural bud vase in matte cream stoneware with fine vertical ribbing, a rounded belly and a narrow neck. Watertight, weighted at the base, and designed to look complete with one stem or none.

The short version

Most vases ask for a bouquet. Ora asks for two stems. The neck is deliberately narrow — 3.5 cm — because a tight opening does the styling work for you: one tulip, one branch of eucalyptus, or two dried stems stand up straight instead of splaying out, and the arrangement looks intentional instead of accidental.

The body is a rounded belly that tapers into a slender neck, with fine vertical ribs pressed into the surface while the clay is still soft. Those ribs do two things: they catch raking light so the matte cream surface is never flat, and they give your hand something to hold when you move it. The cream glaze is matte and slightly chalky, warm rather than blue-white, so it sits comfortably next to oak, walnut and linen.

It is fully watertight and sealed inside, so fresh stems are fine; the base is weighted enough that a top-heavy branch will not tip it over. At 22 cm it works on a console, a shelf, a dining table or a bathroom counter, and it holds its own completely empty — which is the real test of a vase.

Care & use

• Hand wash with warm water; not dishwasher safe.
